Baking Disasters
Hi all. I hope you are staying well in these strange times.
Today I want to talk about the disasters that can come with baking. A lot of it does come with confidence and experience, but also what’s involved with it is pure luck! I have so many people come to me and say they’re hopeless at baking, or that they can’t do it.
Anyone can bake, but like anything you have to go into it feeling positive and with a can do attitude. I tried a new recipe for my mums birthday, a cake that contained peas. Cake that contain vegetables generally are heavier than the average sponge, especially as usually vegetable cakes contain oil which immediately makes cake drop and become heavy and claggy.
This cake was also exciting for me to try because it was sugar free and dairy free (apart from eggs) and I was hoping to adjust it to be vegan. But I had no such luck. In fact for mums birthday yesterday we took one bite and said yuck and resolved to the chocolate instead.
When you have a disaster like this, whether it be putting the oven temperature too high and burning your biscuits, using the wrong flour or over mixing a cake, don’t be disheartened. The only way we learn is by mistakes and improving.
So my task for you here is; let me know your baking challenges and mistakes you have faced, and I will try and help you by thinking of an idea to improve it to make it again. And let’s face it, we have the time! So while I refigure my pea cake, you have a think and let me know and we can work together on these baking disasters!
You’ve got this! Stay positive and stay well x
